Avocado is a delicious fruit with many health benefits. It has been given the status of a superfood because it is packed with essential nutrients and vitamins. Avocado oil has been found to be one of the healthiest oils on earth helping to prevent conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity. To add to its many benefits when consumed orally, avocado oil can also be applied to your skin with amazing results.

Avocado oil has been well-known since ancient times for its natural healing and regenerative properties. It has a very broad spectrum of use in relation to skin care ranging from removing eye make upto treatment of conditions such as psoriasis. This is because the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents present in avocado oil help to increase the elasticity, strength, and smoothness of your skin. It is ideally suited for people with sensitive or damaged skin. It can be used for:

  • Soothing itchy skin
  • Healing and hydrating chapped skin
  • Protecting sensitive skin
  • Moisturizing dry skin
  • Shielding skin from harmful ultraviolet radiation

Some practical skin care applications of avocado oil:

Eye Makeup Removal: Apply a small amount to a cotton ball and gently swipe across the eyes. Don’t worry about leaving some of it around your eyes as it will help diminish crow’s feet.

Chapped Skin Lotion: After a bath, massage a generous amount of avocado oil into your skin concentrating on the chapped areas. The oil can be used either by itself or by adding a few drops to your everyday lotion.

Facial Moisturizer: Put 2 parts of avocado oil and 1 part of a nourishing oil along with a few drops of an essential oil such as rose or lavender in a 1-ounce bottle and shake well to mix the ingredients. This home-made moisturizer can be used for your hands as well.

Face Mask: Cut a ripe avocado into small pieces and add some avocado oil. Mash with a fork to make a paste. Apply paste to face and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Remove with warm water or face cleanser.

Avocado oil is easily available at any health or grocery store and can conveniently be made a part of your regular skin care routine. If you have a skin condition or have any concern regarding your skin type, it is recommended that you visit a skin care clinic or consult a cosmetic physician before starting a new skin care regime.
